It recorded the westward movement in Virginia. It was Jefferson's only printed map.

Engraved for Notes on Virginia. This is state 2 of the Thomas Jefferson map of 1787, published by John Stockdale of London. It is the most detailed and accurate representation of Virginia in the last quarter of the 18th century and records the westward movement in Virginia.

It shows the proposed route for a line between Wilmington, Del. and North East, Md. It is from The Journal of the Franklin Institute of April, 1835.
