In December 2024, the Governor formed the Governor's Economic Competitiveness Subcabinet (Executive Order 01.01.2024.39).
For the Governor, the Subcabinet provides advice, and identifies and recommends policies, regulations, strategies, and actions that strengthen Maryland's economic competitiveness and growth on an ongoing basis. Policies and procedures proposed by executive departments and agencies that affect economic development and workforce development are reviewed by the Subcabinet. Further, implementation of executive directives and legislation to support business and talent development in the State is coordinated by the Subcabinet. In addition, the Subcabinet tracks the progress of interagency implementation of the Economic Strategic Plan approved by the Maryland Economic Development Commission; and of the interagency implementation of the Administration's economic goals under the Maryland State Plan.
Twice a year, the Subcabinet develops and publishes a consolidated economic competitiveness plan that incorporates strategies and action plans from every executive department and agency represented on the Subcabinet.
The Subcabinet consists of at least sixteen ex officio members. The Secretary of Commerce serves as Chair (Executive Order 01.01.2024.39).
