State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:  Whereas heretofore to wit:  On the
22nd day of July 1859 a certain William Thomas of Caroline County
& State aforesaid by a deed of Manumission duly executed acknowledged
and ^in one of the Land^ record books of Caroline County aforesaid did manumit
and set free a certain negro man named William A. Thomas to
be free on after the 22nd day of July 1859.  And whereas application
hath been made to me by a negro man now present calling himself
William Alfred Thomas for a Certificate of his freedom agreeably to
law and whereas on the oath of Warner Husteed hath been proven
that the said William A Thomas is the same negro Man mentioned
in the said deed of Manumission and is now free.  I do therefore
grant this Certificate.  He is now about twenty one Years of age
five feet ^seven^ & three quarters ^inches^ of an inch high or thereabouts of a Mulatto Complexion
was born & raised in this County & has no notable mark or Scars that
I have observed.  In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name &
affix the Seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline County this Nin^e^teenth
day of June Anno Domini 1860

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit  Whereas Susan Ann Thomas
hath made application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably
to law:  and whereas on the Oath of William Conneolly hath been
proven that said Susan Ann Thomas was free born.  I do therefore grant
this Certificate.  She is now about thirty five years of age five feet and
two inches high or thereabout of a chesnutt Complexion was born &
raised in Caroline County and has no notable marks or scars
that I have observed
(Seal)   In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name and affix the seal of
    the Circuit Court for Caroline County this Twenty first day of June Anno Domini
