State of Maryland Caroline County to wit.  Whereas Sarah Elizabeth
Ewing hath made application to me for a Certificate of her freedom agreeably
to Law and whereas on the oath of William G Nicholson Esq.r hath been
proven that said Sarah Elizabeth Ewing hath made was free born
I do therefore grant this Certificate.  She is now about thirty Six years
of age five feet one inch high or thereabout of a Chesnutt Complexion was
born and raised in Caroline County & has a mark on the back
of her neck and a Scar on her right arm near the Elbo Caused
by the Scratch of a needle & has no other notable marks or scars
that I have observed.      In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe
(Seal)   my name and affix the Seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline County
this first day of June Anno Domini Eighteen hundred and Sixty

                                                             Circuit Court for Caroline County


State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:  Whereas James Anderson Johnson hath
made application to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to law.  And whereas
on the affirmation of Samuel Dunning hath been proven that said James Anderson
Johnson was free born.  I do therefore grant this certificate.  He is now about
twenty one years of age five feet two and one quarter inches high or thereabout
of a Black Complexion and has a Scar on his nose & one on his left arm and
one other scar on his forehead & has no other mark or scar that I have observed
In Testimony whereof I hereunto Subscribe my name and affix the Seal of the
Circuit Court for Caroline County this fourth day of June in the
(Seal)   Year of our Lord one of thousand eight hundred and sixty
