Caroline County Circuit Court, Certificates of Freedom, 1857-1864

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:  Whereas Margaret Collins hath
made application to me for a Certificate of her freedom agreeably to law.   And
Whereas on the Oath of John Sandvill hath been proven that Said Margaret
Collins was free born.  I do therefore grant this Certificate.  She is now
about nineteen years of age five feet two and three Quarter inches high
or thereabout of a mulatto Complexion was born and raised in Caroline County
and has no marks or Scars that I have observed
(Seal)   In Testimony whereof I hereunto Subscribe my name and affix the Seal
       of the Circuit Court for Caroline County this 15th day of May Anno Domini
Eighteen Hundred and Sixty

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:  Whereas William Howell
Brown hath made application to me for a certificate of his freedom
agreeably to law:  and whereas on the oath of George Washington
Vincent hath been proven that Said William Howell Brown was
free born.  I do therefore grant this Certificate.  He is now about
twenty two Years of age five feet ten and one half inches high or
thereabout of a Chesnut Complexion was born and raised in Caroline
County and has a Mark on his side & has a scar the right arm and
has no other notable mark or Scar that I have observed.
(seal)   In Testimony whereof I hereunto Subscribe my name and affix the
           Seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline County this 21st day
of May Anno Domini 1860
