State of Maryland Caroline County to wit: Whereas heretofore to wit: on the 19th day of August in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and eighteen a certain Richard Chambers of the County and state aforesaid by deed of Manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded among the land records of Caroline County aforesaid did manumit and set free a certain negro woman named Ann provided the said Ann should serve fourteen years from the date of said manumission and if during the period of said servitude of the said Ann she should have any issue of her body if female to serve untill 20 years of age and if males to serve until 21 years of age And whereas application made to me by a negro now present calling himself John H Robinson for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to law and whereas on the oath of Thomas Bell has been proven that said John H Robinson is a child of the aforesaid Ann and now free. I do therefore grant this certificate he is now about thirty one years of age five feet five inches high or thereabout of a dark chesnutt complexion was born and raised in Caroline County and has no scar or mark that I have observed In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name and affix the seal (seal) of the Circuit Court for Caroline County this 6th day of January A D 1858 Robert J Jump Clk |
