Caroline County Circuit Court, Certificates of Freedom, 1857-1864

County aforesaid that the said negro man named Pollidore no coling
himself Pollidore Holmes) for whom this certificate is made is the same
person mentioned in the said manumission   I do therefore grant him
said application and hereby certify that he is now about thirty seven years
of age five feet five inches high or thereabout of a black Complexion
born and raised in Caroline County and has no scars or marks that I
have observed   In Testimony whereof I hereunto Subscribe my
name and affix the seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline County
(Seal)      this twenty sixth day of Octo Anno Domini 1858

State of Maryland Caroline County tow it:  Whereas John Bryan
hath made application to me for a certificate of his freedom
agreeably to Law: and whereas on the Oath of John
Chilcutt has been proven that said John Bryan was free
born:  I do therefore grant this certificate he is now about
twenty six years of age five feet and five inches high or
thereabout of a Chesnutt complexion was born and raised
in Caroline County and has no notable mark or scar that
I have observed
    (seal)      In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my
                  name and affix the seal of the Circuit Court
                  for Caroline County this Eighth day of December
                  in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and
                  fifty eight
