State of Maryland Caroline County to wit: Whereas Eliza Cooper hath made application to me for a Certificate of her freedom agreeably to Law and whereas on the affirmation of Samuel Dunning has been proven that the said Eliza Cooper was free born I do therefore grant his Certificate she is now about forty four years of age five feet high or thereabout of a Chestnutt Complexion was born and raised in Caroline County and has a Crooked finger on the left hand the finger nixt next to the little finger & has no other that I have observed I Testimony whereof I hereto Subscribe my (Seal) name and affix the Seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline County the ninteenth day of October Anno Domini 1858 Robt J Jump Clk State of Maryland Caroline County to wit: Whereas on the Sixteenth day of September in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and twenty Six a certain James Turner of Caroline County by deed of Manumission duly recorded executed acknowledged and recorded among the land records of Caroline County did manumit and set free a certain negro man named Pollidore (now calling himself Polliam Holmes) to be free after he arrived to the age of twenty eight years of age and the said negro man named Pollidore (now calling himself Pollidore Holmes) having made application to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and wheareas also upon the affirmation of John R Stack of Caroline |
