Caroline County Circuit Court, Certificates of Freedom, 1857-1864

    State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:  Whereas application
William Henry Cook hath made application to me for a certificate
of his freedom agreeably to law:  And whereas on the oath of Collison
Waddell hath been proven that said William Henry Cook was free
born.  I do therefore grant this certificate he is now about twenty
eight years of age five feet seven & three quarter inches high or thereabouts
of a black complexion and has a large scar on the under part of his left
arm near the elbow and has no other notable marks or scars that I
have observed
(seal)   In Testimony Whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix
           the seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline County this 3d day of
June Anno Domini 1862

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:  Whereas Urbanna Fountain hath
made application to me for a certificate for his freedom agreeably to law and
whereas on the oath of James E. Hignutt it hath been proven that said
Urbanna Wil Fountain was free born I do therefore grant this certificate
she is now about Seventeen years of age five feet five and three quarter
inches high or thereabouts of a chesnut Complexion and has a large
small scar between her eyes and has no other notable Marks or Scars
that I have observed was born and raised in Caroline County
                           In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my
       (seal)            name & affix the seal of the Circuit Court for
                           Caroline County this 20th day of October 1862
