Caroline County Circuit Court, Certificates of Freedom, 1857-1864

    State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:  Whereas John Wilkinson
hath made application to me for a Certificate of his freedom agreeably to Law
And whereas on the Oath of William G. Nicholson of Caroline County it hath
been proved to my Satisfaction that said John Wilkinson was free born.  I
do therefore grant this Certificate.  He was twenty one years of age in
August last five feet ten & one half inches high or thereabouts of a mulatto
Complexion was born and raised in Caroline County and has a large Scar
on his left arm between the wrist and elbow and has no other notable
marks or scars that I have observed
                In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix
(Seal)       the seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline County this 25th day of
                April Anno Domini 1861

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:  Whereas George
Henry Freeman hath made application to me for a Certificate
of his freedom agreeably to law:  and whereas on the Oath William
G. Nicholson hath been proven that said George Henry Freeman
was free born.  I do therefore grant this Certificate.  He is now
about thirty one years of age five feet Seven and one half inches
high or thereabouts of a dark Chestnut Complexion was born
and raised in Caroline County & has a scar on the back of his
left hand & has no other notable mark or scars that I have
observed.   In Testimony whereof I hereunto Subscribe my
name and affix the Seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline
County this 19th day of June A D 1861
