Caroline County Circuit Court, Certificates of Freedom, 1857-1864

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:   Whereas Elizabeth
Webb hath made application to me for a certificate of
her freedom agreeably to to law and whereas on the Oath of
Charles Edgell has been proven that said Elizabeth Webb
was free born      I do therefore grant this certificate  She is
now about ninteen years of age five feet & three inches high or
thereabout of a chestnutt Complexion was born & raised
in Caroline County and has a large Scar on the right
rist caused by the bite of a spider and has no other
mark or Scar that I have observed
                   In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my
(Seal)          name and affix the seal of the Circuit Court
                   for Caroline County this fifteenth day of July
                   Anno Domini Eighteen hundred and fifty Eight

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:  Whereas Thomas Groce
hath made application to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to
law and whereas on the Oath of Gideon Clark has been proven
that the said Thomas Groce was free born.  I do the^re^fore grant this
Certificate  He is now about twenty one years of age five feet
nine inches high of a chestnutt Complexion was born & raised
in Caroline County & has one small scar on his right thumb
                      In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name
(Seal)             & affix the seal of my office this 28.th day of July
                      A D. 1858
