Caroline County Circuit Court, Certificates of Freedom, 1857-1864

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:  Whereas Mary Price hath
made application to me for a Certificate of his freedom agreeably to law
and whereas on the oath of Tilghman Nuttle hath been proven that
said Mary Price was free born.  I do therefore grant this Certificate
She is now about Twenty Seven years of age five feet high or thereabouts
of a Mulatto Complexion was born and raised in Caroline
County and has a Scar over the left eye & has lost the first joint off
of the Second finger of her right hand and has no other marks
or Scars that I have observed.  In Testimony whereof I hereunto
(Seal)   Subscribe my name and affix the Seal of the Circuit Court
for Caroline County this Eighteenth day of September A. D. 1860

    State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:
                                                                      Whereas Margaret Jane
Demby hath made application to me for a Certificate of his freedom
agreeably to law and whereas on the Oath of Ebenezer Wyatt hath
been proven that said Margaret Jane Demby was free born.  I do therefore
grant this certificate.  She is now about Seventy five years
of age five feet two inches high or thereabouts of a black Complexion
was born and raised in Caroline County and has a Scar on
the right hand near the wrist & has no other marks or scars that I
have observed & was born and raised in Caroline County
(seal)   In Testimony whereof I hereunto Subscribe my name and affix
the Seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline County this 25th
day of September Anno Domini 1860
