Caroline County Circuit Court, Certificates of Freedom, 1857-1864

State of Maryland Caroline County to Wit:
                   Whereas James Henry Webb hath made application
to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to Law
And w^h^ereas on the Oath of Lemuel Hubbard has been proven
that Said James Henry Webb was free born   I do therefore
grant this Certificate He is now about twenty one years of age five
feet Six inches high or thereabout of a black Complexion was
born and raised in Caroline County and has no ma^r^k or scar
that I have observed      In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe
my affix the seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline County
this twenty Sixth day of May Anno Domini Eighteen hundred
and fifty Eight Robert J Jump Clk of the Circuit
                         Court for Caroline County


State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:
                               Whereas Mary Buley hath made application to
me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to law:  And whereas
on the oath of William Loockerman has been proven that said
Mary Buley was free born:  I do therefore grant this certificate
she is now about twenty seven years of age five feet and
one inch high or thereabout of a Chesnutt complexion was
born and raised in Caroline County and has no mark or
scar that I have observed
                      In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe
    (seal)          my name and affix the seal of the Circuit
                      Court for Caroline County this 29th day of
                      May Anno Domini 1858
                               Robert J Jump Clerk of the
                               Circuit Court for Caroline County
