State of Maryland Caroline County to Wit:   Whereas Josiah Chase
hath made application to Me for a Certificate of his freedom
agreeably to Law:  and whereas on the Oath of Charles Edguli has
been proven that Said Josiah Chase was free born   I do therefore
grant this Certificate he is now about twenty Eight Years of age
five feet & eight inches hight or thereabout of a black Complexion
was born & raised in Caroline County and has no other notable mark
or scar that I have observed.   In Testimony whreof I hereunto
Subscribe my name and affix the Seal of the Circuit Court
(Sea) for Caroline County this twenty Second day of May Eighteen
hundred and ^fifty^ Eight

State of Maryland Caroline County to Wit  Whereas George Adams
hath made application to me for a Certificate of his freedom agreeably
to Law:  and whereas on the Oath of Charles Edgell has been
proven that said George Adams was free born   I do therefore
grant this Certificate   He is now thirty years of age five feet
and ten inches hight or thereabout of a Black Complexion
was born & raised in Caroline County and has a scar under the cap
of the right Knee Caused by the Cut of a Cythe & Cradle & has some
marks on his nose Caused by the Small pock and has
no other notable mark or scar that I have observed
(Seal)                        In Testimony whereof I hereunto Subscribe
my name and affix the Seal of the Circuit Court for
Caroline County this twenty Second day of May Anno Domini
Eighteen hundred and fifty Eight
