to be the persons who are named and described as and professing to be the
parties to the foregoing indenture or instrument of writing and doth
acknowledge the said indenture or instrument of writing to be their act &
deed.  In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name on the day and

          Know all men by these presents that I Richard Ward of Anne
Arundel County in the State of Maryland for and in consideration of
the sum of three hundred dollars current money of the United States
to me in hand paid by Cephas Ward of Calvert County and state
aforesaid at and before the sealing and delivering hereof the receipt whereof
I do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained and sold & by these presents
do grant bargain and sell unto the said Cephas Ward his executors administrators
and assigns one dark bay horse with white in his forhead one dark bay mare one
red cow with a white back one red & white spotted cow one red & white spotted
stear yearling & one red stear yearling one brood sow and nine shoats all of my
fourth part of a crop of tobacco with my said brother brothers Cephas
Ward Henry C. Drury and William Drury supposed to be about twenty
five hundred pounds all of my two thirds of a crop of wheat now
growing on the Lands of said Henry C. Drury Esq. two Beads & their
furniture one clock & all also of my plantation utensils of every description
with twelve or fifteen Barrells of indian corn now in the corn house all of
which property is now in my possession to have and to hold the same described
property above bargained and sold to the said Cephas Ward his Executors and
administrators and assigns shall and will forever warrant and defend
the same to his and their only proper use & benefit and I the said Richard
Ward for myself my Executors and administrators and assigns the said
property against me my Executors and administrators and against all
and every other person or persons whomsoever claiming the same or
any part thereof.

             In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed
my seal the third day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and forty five

          At the foot of the foregoing was thus written to wit

Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit

On this 3.d day of April in the year of our 1845 personally appeared
Richard Ward before me the Subscriber a justice of the peace for said
County and acknowledges the foregoing instrument of writing to be his
