forever.  Provided always and these presents are upon this condition that
if the said Philip C. Clayton his executors or administrators shall and
do well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Philip
Clayton his executors administrators or assigns the said full sum of
four hundred dollars current money with legal interest for the same
on or before the first day of January next then and in such case
these presents and every matter and thing herein contained
shall cease and be utterly void to all intents and purposes any
thing herein contained to the contrary thereof in any wise notwithstanding
In Witness whereof the said Philip C. Clayton have
hereto set his hand and seal the day and year first above written

       At the foot of the foregoing was thus written to wit

State of Maryland
                            Anne Arundel County to wit
On this 5.th day of August in the year 1845 personally appeared
Philip C. Clayton before the subscriber a justice of the peace of the
State of Maryland in and for the County aforesaid and acknowledged
the aforegoing instrument of writing to be his act and deed

Deed from Alexander Randall to
Matilda Watkins of a negro woman
dated the seventh day of August
eighteen hundred and forty five
This Indenture made this
Eleventh day of August in
the year eighteen hundred
and forty five between Alexander
Randall of Anne Arundel
County of the one part and Matilda Watkins wife of John
Nicholas Watkins of the same County in the State of Maryland
of the other part.  Whereas by a decree of the High Court of Chancery
of the State aforesaid bearing date the eighth day of February
in the year eighteen hundred and forty five passed in a cause
wherein the State of Maryland by the Attorney General is
complainant and the President Directors and Company of
the Farmers Bank of Maryland and others are defendants
the abovenamed Alexander Randall was appointed a trustee
and authorised and empowered to sell and dispose of certain
negroes slaves for life in the proceedings in said cause mentioned
That in pursuance of the said Decree the said Alexander Randall
hath sold and disposed of to the said Matilda Watkins
