a negro woman named Serena aged about fifty five years
being one of the negroes aforesaid at and for the sum of one hundred
and twenty five dollars which sum hath been fully paid and
satisfied unto the said Alexander Randall the receipt
whereof is hereby acknowledged.  And whereas by the act of the
General Assembly of Maryland passed at December session
eighteen hundred and forty two Chapter two hundred and
ninety three a woman during coverture may become entitled
to or possessed of slaves by conveyance gift inheritance
distribution or otherwise and may hold and possess the same
as her seperate property exempt from any liability for
the debts or contracts of her husband.  Now this Indenture
witnesseth that the said Alexander Randall for and
in consideration of the premises and for and in consideration
of the sum of one dollar lawful money of the
United States to him in hand paid the receipt whereof
is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained and sold
and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto
the said Matilda Watkins her Executors administrators
and assigns the said negro woman named Serena aged
about fifty five years.  To Have and To Hold the said negro
woman unto the said Matilda Watkins her heirs
executors administrators and assigns forever.

       In Testimony whereof the said Alexander Randall
hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year
first herein before written
Signed Sealed and delivered           A. Randall   (seal)
in presence of W.m Glover

    At the foot of the foregoing was thus written to wit

          Anne Arundel County to wit

On this seventh day of August in the year eighteen hundred
and forty five before me the Subscriber a justice of the peace of
the State of Maryland in and for said County personally
appeared Alexander Randall he being known to me to be
the identical person named and described as and professing
to be the party grantor in the aforegoing deed or instrument
of writing and acknowledged the same to be his act and
deed                                                W.m Glover
Recorded the 8.th day of August 1845
