Randall one negro woman Betsey and negro boy William as slaves for life for the sum of six hundred dollars current money in which said sum he the said Claggett stands justly indebted to the said Randall and to secure the payment thereof is willing to execute these presents. Now this Indenture witnesseth that the said Claggett for and in consideration of the premises and for and in consideration of the sum of five dollars current money to him in hand paid by the said Randall at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said Randall his executors administrators and assigns the following personal property to wit: one negro man named Harry aged about thirty years and said Betsey his wife aged about twenty eight years and said negro boy William aged about twelve years son of the aforesaid Betsey all slaves for life and now in the possession of the said Claggett. To Have and to Hold the same with the said Randall his executors administrators and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of the said Randall his executors administrators and assigns forever Provided always and these presents are upon this condition that if the said Claggett his executors or administrators shall and do well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Alexander Randall his executors administrators or assigns the full sum of six hundred dollars current money within three years next ensuing the day of the date of these presents and the legal interest for the same annually the first payment thereof to be made one year from the day of the date of these presents then and in such case these presents and every matter and thing herein contained shall cease determine and be utterly void to all intents and purposes anything herein contained to the contrary thereof in anywise notwithstanding and the said Claggett for himself his heirs executors and administrators doth covenant promise grant and agree to and with the said Randall his executors and administrators and assigns in manner and for following that is to say that he the said Claggett his heirs executors or administrators or some of them shall and will well and truly pay unto the said Randall his executors administrators or assigns the said sum of six hundred dollars and the legal interest thereof annually as aforesaid In Witness whereof the said Samuel Albert Claggett hath hereunto set his hand |
