320 Osbourne have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal this 26.th day of January one thousand eight hundred and forty nine his Signed sealed and delivered in the Aleric x Osbourne (seal) presence of Dorsey Jacob mark State of Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit: 1849 On this 26.th day of January before me one of the Justices of the peace in and for said County appears Alric Osbourne he being known to me as the person named in the foregoing instrument of writing and acknowledged the said instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof Before Dorsey Jacob Annapolis Jany 29.th 1849 Received one dollar for stamp duty on this instrument Jn H Nicholson Clk Recorded on the 29th day of January 1849 Cost $.42 paid
the receipt whereof we do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained sold and delivered and by these presents do grant bargain sell and deliver unto the said Joshua Osbourne one negro woman Harriet aged about eighteen years a slave for life which said slave Harriet we will warrant and defend to the said Joshua Osbourne his executors administrators and assigns against us our executors and administrators and against every other person or persons whomsoever In Witness whereof we have hereunto respectively set our hands names and affixed our seals on the 27 day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty nine In the presence of his Dorsey Jacob Alfred + Johnson (seal) mark her Mary Ann x Johnson (seal) mark State of Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit On this 27.th day of January 1849 before me one of the justices of the peace in and for said County appear Alfred Johnson and Mary Ann Johnson his wife and severally acknowledge the said instrument of writing to be their respective act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the acts of assembly in such case made and provided And the said Mary Ann upon being privately examined by me declared that she did sign seal and acknowledge said instrument of writing voluntarily and freely and with out being induced thereto by fear or threats of or ill usage by her said husband or for fear of his displeasure Before Dorsey Jacob At the same time and place of the signing sealing and delivering of the foregoing Bill of Sale also appeared before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace as aforesaid Joshua Osbourne the grantee in the said Bill of sale named and made oath that the consideration set forth in the said Bill of sale is true and bona fide as |
