276. described and professing to be the party grantor to the foregoing Instrument of writing and acknowledges the same to be his act and Deed, and at the same time also appeared the said William Spence the party grantee and made Oath that the consideration set forth in said Bill of Sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth Acknowledged and sworn to before J. said County and State at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged: Have granted bargained and sold and by these presents Do grant, bargain and sell, unto the said Charles Smith his Executors, Administrators and Assigns, One Negro man Harry aged about twenty One years the said Negro being a slave for life and formerly the property of James Phelps of Anne Arundel County now deceased, the said described Negro slave for life To Have and To Hold to the said Charles Smith his Executors, Administrators and assigns forever and I the said Andrew J. Phelps administrator for myself my Heirs, Executors and Administrators, and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever, shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents In witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal this twelfth day of June Eighteen Hundred and Forty Eight Signed Sealed and Delivered in the presence of Andrew J.
