consideration of the sum of four hundred and sixty five dollars lawful
money of the United States in hand paid by Thomas Lee of Howard District
and State aforesaid at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents
the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and sold
and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Thomas Lee
his Executors administrators and assigns one negro man named Ben now
about twenty one years of age of the property of Charles Waters late of the
City of Baltimore decd as a slave to serve until the first day of January
eighteen hundred and sixty one (1861) and thereafter to be free and discharged
from all servitude agreeably to the form and effect of the last
will and testament of the said deceased the said negro man being sold
and conveyed by me as Executors and in virtue of the power and authority
vested in me by said last will and testament.  To Have and To Hold
the said described Negro man Ben to the said Thomas Lee his executors
administrators and assigns as aforesaid.  In Witness whereof we have
hereunto set our hands and seals this fifth day of December eighteen
hundred and forty six

    At the foot of the foregoing was thus written to wit

       State of Maryland

             Baltimore City SS.  Be it remembered that on this fifth day
of December 1846 before the Subscriber a justice of the peace for said City
appears F. G Waters Executor and Thomas Lee and acknowledges
the above instrument of writing to be their act and deed according
to the true intent and meaning thereof

This Indenture made this Seventeenth
day of March in the year of Our Lord
One thousand Eight hundred and
forty seven between John S. Sellman
of Anne Arundel County in the State of Maryland of the One part and Doctor
John B. Wells of the United States Army of the other part
Whereas the said John S. Sellman owes and stands justly indebted to the
said John B. Wells On his single bill duly stamped according to the Act of
Assembly in such case made and provided in the sum of fifteen hundred
and ninety dollars and forty six cents payable in two years from the tenth
