negroes to wit negro woman Rose about thirty years old and her two
children Henry about eleven years old and Richard about two years
old also negro man George about nineteen years old all of said negroes
Slaves for life and now in my possession.  To Have and to hold
the said negro Rose Henry Richard and George to the said Nicholas
W. Goldsborough his executors administrators and assigns forever
And I the said Editha Williams for myself my heirs Executors
and administrators the aforesaid negro Rose Henry Richard and George
to the said Nicholas W. Goldsborough his Executors administrators
and assigns against me the said Editha Williams my Executors
and administrators and against al land every person and persons
whomsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these
presents  Provided nevertheless that in case I the said Editha Williams
shall pay and satisfy to the said Nicholas W Goldsborough
or to his executors administrators or assigns the sum of four hundred
dollars current money with interest for the same on or before
the first day of January eighteen hundred and forty nine then
this bill of sale and every matter and thing therein expressed
shall be void and of none effect it being the true intent and
meaning thereof that the said negroes Rose Henry Richard and
george are mortgaged by me the said Editha Williams to secure
to the said Nicholas W Goldsborough the payment of the money
aforesaid  In Witness whereof I the said Editha Williams have
hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal the twenty eighth day of
April eighteen hundred and forty seven

                      Harriet Selby

At the foot of the foregoing was thus written to wit

    Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit

       On the twenty eighth day of April 1847 before me one of the justices
of the peace in and for said County appears Editha Williams and acknowledges
the foregoing writing to be her act and deed according to the true
intent and meaning thereof and the act of Assembly in such case
made and provided                 Witness my hand
