in the year eighteen hundred and forty six between John Watkins
of the State of Maryland and Anne Arundel County of the one
part and Richard Crisp of said State and County of the other part
Whereas the said John Watkins owes and stands justly indebted to
the said Richard Crisp in the sum of three hundred dollars current
money a certain note bearing date the twenty first day of July
eighteen hundred and forty six and payable on or before the
twenty first day of January eighteen hundred and forty eight
and which said note is duly stamped according to law and to
secure the payment thereof is willing to execute these presents
Now this Indenture Witnesseth that the said John Watkins
for and in consideration of the premises and of the sum of
five dollars current money to him in hand paid by the said
Richard Crisp at and before the sealing and delivering of these
presents the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged hath
granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant
bargain and sell unto the said Richard Crisp his executors
administrators and assigns one negro boy named Ned aged about
twenty five years and one other negro Boy John aged about
eight years.  To Have and To Hold the said negroes Ned and John
unto the said Richard Crisp his executors administrators and
assigns to his and their own use and behoof  Provided always and
it is declared to be the true intent and meaning of these presents
that if the said John Watkins do and shall well and truly pay
or cause to be paid unto the said Richard Crisp his Executors
administrators or assigns the full sum of three hundred dollars
current money a certain note herein before described) with legal
interest for the same on or before the twenty first day of January
eighteen hundred and forty eight then and in such case these
presents and every matter and thing herein contained shall
cease determine and be utterly void to all intents and purposes
anything herein contained to the contrary notwithstanding  And
the said Richard Crisp for himself his heirs executors and administrators
doth covenant promise grant and agree to and with the
said John Watkins his executors and administrators that he the
said Richard Crisp his executors administrators or assigns shall
and will immediately upon receipt of the said sum of three
hundred dollars and interest as aforesaid at the day and time
limited for payment thereof deliver or cause to be delivered unto
the said John Watkins his Executors administrators or assigns the
aforesaid negro boy Ned and which is now and at the time of executing
