124 these presents received by the said Richard Crisp from the said John Watkins In Witness whereof the said John Watkins as aforesaid hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year first above written Signed sealed and delivered John Watkins (seal) in the presence of Thomas N. Pindle At the foot of the foregoing was thus written to wit M.d Anne Arundel County to wit Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on this 21.st day of July 1846 personally appeared before me the Subscriber a Justice of the peace in and for Anne Arundel County John Watkins the party grantor in the aforegoing Indenture or Instrument of writing and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed for the purposed therein mentioned Recorded the 21.st day of July 1846 Tho.s N. Pindle ex & deld costs $1.00 Paid
August 1842 and recorded in Anne Arundel County Court office to the Undersigned and I have consented to take as a Substitute for him a negro man named George Brown who has been conveyed to me. Now I want it understood that this negro is held by me merely as a security for $ three hundred & fourteen dollars due by me son Hamilton Bowie to me with interest from the date aforesaid on payment of which this man shall be his property and I also agree that in the event of my death neither this money nor the negro shall be required of him but that they both are then to be his property in addition to what I may leave him by my will or to what may descend and be distributed to him should I not make a will Recorded the 30.th day of July 1846 E. H. Bowie costs 50 cts
paid or secured to be paid by Henry B. Darnall of the County and State aforesaid |
