Know all men by these presents that I Joseph M Tate of Anne
Arundel County and state of Maryland for and in Consideration
of the sum of four hundred dollars Current Money of the United States
to me in hand paid by Charles C Brice of the County and state aforesaid
at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt
whereof I do hereby acknowledge and therewith to be fully satisfied
Contented and paid have bargained and sold  And by these presents
do bargain and sell the following described property to wit one negro
woman named Charlotte and her female Child named Agness which
said negroes so described as aforesaid  I do hereby acknowledge to be the
property of the said Charles C Brice his Executors administrators and
Assigns free clear and discharged from all Claim which I the said
Joseph M Tate may have in and to the said negroes so described as
aforesaid and I the said Joseph M Tate for myself my Executors and
administrators the said negroes so described as aforesaid will warrant
and defend by these presents  In Testimony whereof I the said Joseph
M Tate have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal this
Eighteenth day of July Eighteen hundred and thirty nine

             presence of                                 Joseph M Tate   (seal)
          Gabriel H Duvall

                   At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit

State of Maryland Anne Arundel County Sct  On this Eighteenth day
of July Eighteen hundred and thirty nine personally appeared before
me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the state of maryland in and for
said County Joseph M Tate party bargainor to the aforegoing instrument
of writing he being known to me as the person who is named and described
as and professing to be a party to the aforegoing instrument of writing
And doth acknowledge the same to be his act and deed and the
property therein described to be the right and Estate of Charles C
Brice party bargainee also therein mentioned
3½               Taken before and Certified by Gabriel H Duvall
paid
Recorded the 17th day of September 1840


       Know all men by these presents that I Thomas W Stinchicomb of
Anne Arundel County for the purpose of securing the repayment of the sum of
five hundred and fifty dollars Current money heretofore loaned to me by John
Tydings of said County with Interest thereon as is hereinafter provided  And in
