317 whereof the said Hamilton Bowie hath hereto set his hand and affixed his seal the day and year first aforesaid Hamilton Bowie (seal) Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of the 10 line the first page having been first interlined Wm Glover At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit Be it remembered That on this fifteenth day of Jany in the year Eighteen hundred and forty four before the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of maryland in and for Anne Arundel County personally appeared Hamilton Bowie of the said County and acknowledges the aforegoing deed or instrument of writing as his act and deed and the Negroes and personal property therein stated to be the Estate of the said George D O Gowan for the purposes therein mentioned Exd d d Acknowledged before and Certified by Wm Glover chd 88 7 Recorded the 15 day of January 1844 This Indenture made this Eleventh day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and forty four Between John S Selby of Anne Arundel County in the State of maryland of the one part and Nicholas J Watkins of the County and State aforesaid of the other part Whereas the said John S Selby owes and stands justly indebted the said Nicholas J Watkins in the sum of seventeen hundred dollars current money And whereon the said N.s J Watkins is security for said John S Selby on a note due Mary Green dated the tenth day of January Eighteen hundred and forty for the sum of five hundred and twenty six dollars Current money and to secure the payment of the said sum of money is willing to execute these presents Now this Indenture Witnesseth that the said John S Selby for and in consideration of the premises and of the sum of one dollar Current money to him in hand paid by the said Nicholas J Watkins at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said Nicholas J Watkins his Executors administrators and assigns all and singular the goods and chattels herein after particularly mentioned and expressed that is to say One negro man named Edmund One Negro man named Charles, One negro man named Nace, One negro boy named Charles, One negro boy named George and one negro woman named Charlotte, also three horses, four mules six oxen and fourteen other cattle, thirty sheep forty hogs all my farming utensils all my household and kitchen furniture and the Crop of wheat now growing on the Ground on my farm To have and To hold all and singular the said goods and chattels unto the said Nicholas J Watkins his Executors administrators and assigns to his and their own use and behoof Provided always and it is declared to be true intent and meaning of these presents that if the |
