therefor either in part or in the whole the said John Sands is willing and desirous further to secure
by these presents  Now this Indenture Witnesseth that the said John Sands for and in consideration
of the premises and for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar Current Money by him
in hand paid unto the said President Directors and Company the receipt whereof is hereby
acknowledged hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain
and sell unto the said President Directors and Company the Schooner called The Merchant
of Annapolis of fifty eight and 68/95 Tons barthen or thereabout together with all her Boats
Sails rigging apparel Cables and anchors and furniture as she now lies and is possessed
by said Sands and also one negro Boy named Horace about sixteen years old of black
Complexion also now in the possession of the said Sands as a slave for life  To have and
To hold all and singular the said Schooner and appurtenances and the said negro
Boy Horace to the said President Directors and Company and their successors forever
Provided always and these presents are upon this express condition that if the said John
Sands his Executors administrators or assigns do and shall well and truly pay to the said
President Directors and Company their successors or assigns the said Sum of Eight
hundred dollars Current money and all interest and Costs and discounts due
thereon according to the Custom of the said Bank whether on said note or renewal
thereof or substitute therefore either in whole or in part when thereto required by the
Said President Directors and Company then and in such case these presents and
every matter and thing therein Contained shall be utterly null and void to all
intents and purposes whatsoever anything herein contained to the Contrary thereof
notwithstanding  In witness whereof the said John Sands hath hereunto set his hand
and affixed his seal the day and year first therein stated

                   At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit

State of Maryland Anne Arundel County  Be it remembered that on this
ninth day of July in the year Eighteen hundred and fifty two before me the subscriber
a Justice of the peace of the said State in and for Anne Arundel COunty aforesaid
personally appears John Sands of the said State and County and acknowledges the
aforegoing instrument of writing to be his act and deed and the personal Estate
thereby conveyed to be the property of the Grantees also there named and their successors
according to the true intent and meaning thereof  Acknowledged before and
Certified by                                          J W Hunter
