the right & title of said slave I will forever warrant and defend
against all claim or claims of any kind whatever for the period
above mentioned      In Witness whereof we have hereto set
our hands and seals this 13.th day of April Eighteen hundred
and fifty seven 1857

       Be it remembered that on this 13.th day of April 1857 before
me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace in and for said County and
State personally appears James S. Gary and Thomas Rowles
and acknowledges the within instrument of writing to be thir
act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof
and at the same time appears before me Thomas Rowles the
grantee in the said Bill of Sale named and made oath that
the consideration set fourth in said Bill of Sale is true and
bona fide as therein set forth

Daniel Miller
This Indenture made this sixteenth
day of April Eighteen hundred and
fifty seven between James Sykes
of Howard County in the State of
Maryland of the one part and
Daniel Miller of the City of Baltimore & State aforesaid of
the other part      Witnesseth that the said James Sykes
in consideration of the sum of one dollar current money to
him in hand paid by the said Daniel Miller at or before the
sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is
hereby acknowledged and for other good and valuable
considerations hereinafter mentioned hath given granted
bargained and sold and by these presents doth give grant
bargain and sell unto the said Daniel Miller his heirs
and assigns   All the goods wares and merchandize
stock raw material manufactured or unmanufactured
goods wares and merchandize in the factorys worked by
the said James Sykes and in his Stores or Store houses
at Sykesville in said County and at Oakland or any any
other place or places under his controul and such goods
