State of Maryland Dorchester County To wit:         On this 14th day of February 1853 before me one
of the Justices of the peace in and for said State and County appeared William Burton and acknowledgd
the foregoing instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and
the act of assembly in Such Case made and provided                                                 James Craig J. P.  (seal)

On this 14th day of February 1853 personally appeared S. Columbus Tall and made Oath on the
holy Evangelist of Almighty God that the above Bill of Sale is a true and bona fide Bill of Sale and the consideration
therein mentioned is Just and true as set forth in said paper

Lewis Ross Jun.r      Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following mortgage
    √  from  xd           was received and recorded on the 21st day of February 1853 to wit:
Daniel N. James       This indenture made this 12 day of February Anno Domini Eighteen
hundred and fifty three between Daniel N. James of Dorchester County & State of Maryland of
the one part and Lewis Ross Jr of the Same County and State of the other part witnesseth whereon
the said ^Daniel N. James owes and Justly indebted to the said^ Lewis Ross in the sum of two hundred dollars Current money and to secure the payment
thereof is willing to execute these presents.  Now this indenture witnesseth that the Said Daniel N.
James for and in Consideration of the premises and of the sum of one Dollar to him in hand paid by
the said Lewis Ross Jr at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof
the said Daniel N. James doth hereby acknowledge hath granted bargained and sold, & by these
presents doth give, grant bargain & sell unto the said Lewis Ross, his executors administrators and assigns
a dark Chesnut bay mare Called Fanny, and a grey horse Called John Richards.  To Have
& To Hold the said mare Called Fanny & the said Horse Called John Richards unto the said
Lewis Ross Jr. his executors administrators and assigns, to his & their own use and behoof
Provided Always, and it is declared to be the true intent and meaning of these presents that if the
said Daniel N. James do and shall & well & truly pay or Cause to be paid unto the said Lewis
Ross Jr his executors administrators or assigns the full sum of two hundred dollars Current money
with legal interest for the same from this date on or before the 12th day of February Anno Domini
Eighteen hundred and fifty four, then and in such Case these presents and every matter and thing
herein Contained to be utterly null and void to all intents and purposes, any thing herein
Contained to the Contrary notwithstanding         In witness whereof the said Daniel N. James
hath hereunto set his hand & affixed his seal on the day and year first aforesaid written

the Subscriber a Justice of the peace of the state of Maryland in & for Dorchester County
personally appears Daniel N. James he being known to me to be the person who is named
and described as & professing to be the party to the foregoing deed or indenture and doth acknowledge
the indenture or instrument of writing to be his act and deed and at the same time personally
appears Lewis Ross Jr the grantee or vendee in the above instrument of writing and makes Oath
