bargained and sold unto the said party of the second part his heirs, Executors, administrators
and assigns against me the said party of the first part and against all and every person or persons
whomsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend.  Upon this Condition and provided
always that if the said party of the first part shall well and truly pay his certain
promissory note bearing even date herewith given to the said party of the second part for
the sum of One Hundred and one Dollars with interest thereon from date till paid lawful
money as aforesaid according to the tenor of said note then these presents shall become void
and of now effect else to be and remain in full force and virtue in law.  In witness whereof
the party of the first part to these presents has hereunto set his hand and seal the day and
year first within and above written.

Before the subscriber a Justice of the peace in and for the County and State aforesaid
personally appeared Tho.s Sard the Mortgagor named in the within and aforegoing
Deed of Mortgage and acknowledged the same as his act and deed for the true intent
and purposes therein mentioned:  And at the same time and place personally appeared
Wm A Reed the Mortgagee named in the same Deed of Mortgage who made oath
on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the Consideration therein mentioned is a
Bona fide and just consideration.
                         Taken and acknowledged on this ninth day of February 1857

Charles C. Cornwell      Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following

Joel Cornwell                Know all men by these Presents that I Joel Cornwell
                                     of Dorchester County and State of Maryland for and in consideration
of the sum of One thousand Dollars lawful money of the United States in
hand paid by Charles C Cornwell of the County and State aforesaid at or before the
sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged; have granted
bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said
Charles C Cornwell his Executors administrators and assigns the following negroes; to
wit:  Negro Woman Mariah aged twenty two years also negro Girl Sarah Jane aged
six months  To Have and To Hold the said described negro woman Mariah and girl
Sarah Jane to the said Charles C. Cornwell his Executors administrators and assigns
forever; and I the said Joel Cornwell do for my heirs, Executors and administrators
the said Woman and Child unto the said Charles C Cornwell his Executors administrators
and assigns against me the said Joel Cornwell my Executors and administrators and
