use and behoof of the said William W. Crawford his Executors administrators
and assigns forever   Provided Always and these presents are upon
this condition that if the Said James M. Reed his executors or administrators
shall and do well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the Said William W.
Crawford his executors administrators or assigns the full Sum of one Hundred
and forty Dollars current money with legal interest for the Same on or before
the first day of January in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and fifty
Seven then and in such case these presents and every matter and thing herein
contained shall cease determine and be utterly void to all intents and purposes
any thing herein contained to the contrary thereof in any wise notwithstanding
and the Said James M. Reed for himself his heirs executors or administrators
or some or one of them shall and will well and truly pay or cause to be paid
unto the Said William W. Crawford his Executors administrators and assigns
the Said Sum of One Hundred and forty Dollars together with interest for
the Same at Such time as in the within recited premises and condition herein
mentioned and appointed for the payment thereof, and the Said James M
Reed for himself his executors and administrators all and Singular the
Said property by these presents granted bargained and sold and every part
thereof unto the Said William W. Crawford his Executors administrators
and assigns him the Said James M. Reed his Executors administrators
and against all and every other person and persons whatsoever shall and
will warrant and forever defend by these presents

                In Witness whereof the Said James M. Reed hath hereto set
his name and affixed his seal the day and date within written

Maryland Dorchester County, to wit:
                On the twenty Second day of May in the year of our Lord
Eighteen Hundred and fifty Six personally appeared before me a
Justice of the Peace in and for Said County James M. Reed party
Mortgagor and acknowledged the within and aforegoing Mortgage Bill
of Sale to be his act and deed according to the purport, true intent
and meaning of the Same and at the Same time came before me William
W. Crawford party mortgagee within mentioned and made Oath on the
Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the Consideration set forth in
this mortgage bill of Sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth
according to the true meaning of the acct of Assembly of 1846
chapter 2714 made and provided
