Lord eighteen hundred and fifty five between James Vickers of Dorchester and State of Maryland of the one
part and Thomas Vickers of Dorchester County and State aforesaid of the other part.  Whereas the said James
Vickers owes and stands justly indebted to the said Thomas Vickers in the sum of Two hundred and fifty dollars
Current money and to secure the payment thereof is willing to execute these presents.  Now this Indenture
Witnesseth that the said James Vickers for and in Consideration of the premises and for and
in Consideration of the sum of five dollars Current money to him in hand paid by the said Thomas Vickers
at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof the said James Vickers doth hereby
acknowledge and thereof and therefrom doth acquit release execute and forever discharge the said
Thomas Vickers his heirs executors and administrators and every of them by these presents hath granted bargained
and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain  and sell unto Thomas Vickers his executors
administrators and assigns all and singular the one undivided fourth part of the negroes herein after particularly
mentioned and expressed; that is to say Negro Woman Leah Webb, negro Woman Sylvia Webb,
girl Maria Webb, boy Richard Webb, boy Robert Webb and girl Lucy Webb as appraised and set forth
in the Inventory of the personal Estate of James Vickers Senr late of Dorchester County deceased and returned
upon record in the Orphans Court of the County aforesaid, To Have and To Hold all and
singular the said ^one^ fourth part of said undivided negroes herein before granted bargained and sold or
mentioned or intended so to be unto the said Thomas Vickers his executors administrators and assigns to
the only proper use and behoof of the said Thomas Vickers his executors administrators and assigns forever
Provided Always, and these presents are upon this Condition that if the said James Vickers, his
executors or administrators shall and do well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said
Thomas Vickers his executors administrators or assigns the full sum of Two Hundred and fifty
Dollars Current money with legal interest for the same on or before the first day of July in the
year of our Lord Eighteen Hundred and fifty six then and in such case these presents and
every matter and thing herein contained shall cease determine and be utterly void to all intents
and purposes any thing herein contained to the contrary thereof in anywise notwithstanding; and
the said James Vickers for himself his heirs executors or administrators or some or one of them shall
and will well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Thomas Vickers his executors administrators
and assigns the said sum of Two Hundred and fifty Dollars together with the interest
for the same at such time as in the within recited premises and condition herein mentioned and
appointed for the payment thereof.  And the said James Vickers for himself his executors and administrators
all and singular the said undivided fourth part of said undivided negroes by these
presents granted bargained and sold and every part thereof unto the said Thomas Vickers his executors
administrators and ^assigns against him the said James Vickers his executors administrators and^ against all and every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will
warrant and forever defend by these presents.  In Witness Whereof the said James Vickers hath
hereto set his name and affixed his seal the day and date within written

                                                                         Maryland Dorchester County to wit:  On the twenty
fourth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty five personally
appeared before me a Justice of the Peace in and for said County James Vickers party mortgagor
to the purport true intent and meaning of the same and at the same time came before me Thomas Vickers
party mortgagee within mentioned and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the
Consideration set forth in this Mortgage Bill of Sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth according
to the true meaning of the Act of Assembly of 1846 Chapter 271 made and provided

Deed delivered to Thomas Vickers the 31st day of March 1856
