Preamble

WHEREAS, It is the intent of the General Assembly to encourage bicycling and
walking as energy efficient modes of transportation; and

WHEREAS, The General Assembly wishes to reduce air pollution by encouraging
bicycling and walking for functional trips; and

WHEREAS, It is the goal of the General Assembly to significantly increase the
percentage of total trips performed by walking or bicycling by Fiscal Year 2000; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of the General Assembly that needed bicycle and
pedestrian improvements receive a reasonable degree of funding from all transportation
funds under the control of the State; now, therefore,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section(s) 8-101(d) through (r), respectively, of Article -
Transportation of the Annotated Code of Maryland be renumbered to be Section(s)
8-101(e) through (s), respectively.

SECTION 1. 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED BY THE GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

8-629.

(e) After sidewalks are constructed under this section, they shall be maintained
and repaired by the [political subdivision in which they are located] ADMINISTRATION.
