164 E R Hooper Be it remembered that the following Bill of Sale was recorded on the Ex.d from 75 29th day of March 1849 To wit John Hawkins Know all men by these presents that whereas I John Hawkins free colored man of Dorchester County am indebted to E R Hooper of said County on a bill Obligatory bearing date the same day of these presents for the sum of One Hundred dollars Current money with interest from date Now Know ye therefore that I the said John Hawkins for and in consideration of the premises and of the sum of one Dollar Current money to me in hand paid by the said E R Hooper before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged. I the said John Hawkins have bargained sold conveyed and transferred and by these presents do bargain and sell convey and transfer unto the said E R Hooper his heirs and assigns the following Property to wit one four wheel Hack or double Carriage one four wheel buggy waggon 2 Horse Carts 2 Grey Horses 1 bay Horse 2 beds bedsteads and furniture half a dozen Chairs 2 tables and all the rest and residue of my household and kitchen furniture All which said Property is now in my Possession. To Have and To Hold the above described goods and Chattels and personal property unto him the said E R Hooper his heirs and assigns forever to his and their sole use and uses forever and to and for no other use intent or purpose whatsoever. Provided Nevertheless and it is the intent and meaning of these presents and of the said Parties hereunto that if the said John Hawkins his heirs or assigns shall well and truly pay unto the said E R Hooper his heirs or assigns the full and just sum of one Hundred Dollars current money with interest thereon from the date hereof on or before the first day of January next then and in such Case these presents and every matter and thing herein Contained shall cease and become utterly null and void any thing herein Contained to the Contrary notwithstanding otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue in Law In testimony Whereof the said John Hawkins has hereunto Subscribed his name and affixed his Seal the twenty ninth day of March Eighteen Hundred and forty nine Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of his Charles Corkran John Hawkins (Seal) mark State of Maryland Dorchester County Sct Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that on this twenty ninth day of March Eighteen Hundred and forty nine personally appears John Hawkins Party Mortgagor in the within and aforegoing Mortgage or instrument of writing and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed and delivered the same for the uses and purposes therein mentioned according to the Acts of assembly in such cases made and provided Acknowledged before and Certified by Charles Corkran Maryland Dorchester County Sct On this 29 day of March 1849 Personally appears E R Hooper Party Mortgagee mentioned in the aforegoing Mortgage before the Subscriber or Justice of the Peace for the County and State aforesaid and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the Consideration Mentioned in the aforegoing Mortgage is true and bonafide as therein set forth Sworn before Charles Corkran 1849 October 4th Deld to Jeremiah P.
