Ezekiel R. Hooper      Be it remembered that the following Mortgage
Ex.d   from                 Bill of sale was recorded on the 20.th day of
John H. Carroll           July 1846, To wit:
                                        Know all men by these presents that I John H
Carroll of Dorchester County for and in consideration of the sum of one
dollar current money of Maryland to me in hand paid by Ezekiel R. Hooper
of said County at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the
receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged I the said John H. Carroll have
granted, bargained, sold, conveyed and transfered and by these presents do
grant, bargain, sell, convey and transfer unto the said Ezekiel R. Hooper
his heirs and Assigns one Gig & Harness   To have and to hold the
said above described property unto the said Ezekiel R. Hooper his heirs
and assigns forever to him and their sole use and uses forever and
to and for no other use, intent or purpose whatsoever against the said
John Carroll and his heirs and assigns and against all persons whatsoever
Provided Nevertheless and it is the true intent and
meaning of these presents and of the said parties hereto that if the
said John H. Carroll shall pay and satisfy unto the said Ezekiel R.
Hooper the sum of Twenty five dollars current money with Interest
from this date on or before the first day of January next ensuing the
date of these presents then and in such case these presents and everything
herein contained shall cease and be utterly null and void any thing
herein contained to the contrary notwithstanding.  In testimony whereof
the said John H. Carroll hath hereunto subscribed his name and
affixed his seal this twentieth day of July in the year of Our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and forty six

                                                 Be it remembered that on the
twentieth day of July in the year of Our Lord one thousand Eight hundred
and forty six before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace in &
for said County and state personally appears the within & before
named John H. Carroll and acknowledges the aforegoing instrument
of writing to be his Act and deed according to the true
intent and meaning of the same and the Act of Assembly in
such case made and provided.
                      Acknowledged before         Robert Bell   J. P.
