the within instrument of writing & deed of Manumission to be his act &
deed for the purposes therein mentioned.  Taken & acknowledged before me

John R. Martin          Be it remembered that the following Bill of Sale
M. Ex.d from            was recorded on the 16.th day of Dec.r 1844, To wit:
W.m T. Richardson   Know all men by these presents that I William T.
                                 Richardson of Dorchester County and state of Maryland
for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and forty seven dollars
and thirty one cents lawful money of the United States of America to
me in hand paid by John R. Martin of the County and state aforesaid
at and before the sealing and delivering of these presents the receipt whereof
I the said William T. Richardson do hereby acknowledge, have granted,
bargained and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain & sell unto
the said John R. Martin, his executors, administrators and assigns
one Negro Boy Isaac  To have and to hold the said Negro Boy
Isaac to the said John R. Martin, his executors, administrators and
assigns forever  And I the said William T. Richardson for myself, my
heirs, executors and administrators the aforesaid Negro Boy Isaac to the
said John R. Martin, his executors, administrators and assigns against
me the said William T. Richardson, my executors and administrators
and against all and every person and persons whomsoever shall and
will warrant and forever defend by these presents  Provided Nevertheless
that in case I the said William R. Richardson shall pay and satisfy to
the said John R. Martin or to his executors, administrators or assigns
the sum of one hundred and forty seven dollars and thirty one cents lawful
money of the United States of America with interest for the same
on or before the thirtieth day of November in the year eighteen hundred
and forty five then this Bill of Sale and every matter and thing
therein expressed shall be void and of none effect it being the true intent
and meaning thereof that the said Negro Boy Isaac is mortgaged by
me the said William T. Richardson to secure to the said John R. Martin
the payment of the money aforesaid  In Witness whereof I the said
William T. Richardson have hereunto set my hand and seal this
ninth day of December in the year eighteen hundred & forty four
Signed, sealed & delivered in the presence of
          Standley Richardson                    William T. Richardson   (Seale)

State of Maryland Dorchester County To wit:  on this ninth day of December
in the year eighteen hundred and forty four before me the subscriber
a Justice of the Peace in and for the said County personally appeared William
T. Richardson and acknowledged the within instrument of writing to be his Act
