252. Dorchester County to wit: Be it remembered that on this tenth day of December in the year 1844 the within named Josiah Bayly personally appeared before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace of the State of Maryland in and for Dorchester County aforesaid and acknowledged the within instrument of writing and deed of Manumission to be his act & deed and delivered the same for the persons therein mentioned. Taken and acknowledged before me a Justice of the Peace afs.d Charles Corkran Jeremiah C. Wright Be it remembered that the following deed of Manumission Ex.d to was recorded on the 16.th day of December 1844 Negro Charles Austin Dorchester County, to wit: Whereas, Philip S. Yates of the County aforesaid by his last will & testament admitted to probat in December 1831 did bequeath and direct that his negro man slave called Charles should be liberated, manumitted and set free on the last day of December 1846 and the unexpired and remaining term of slavery or servitude of him the said Charles hath devolved on and become vested in Jeremiah C. Wright of the County aforesaid and the said Charles now called and known by the name of Charles Austin or Charles Oston hath paid and satisfied the said Jeremiah C. Wright for the said limited and unexpired term of slavery or servitude and is willing that the said Negro Charles should be immediately free and enjoy his liberty; Be it known to all whom it may concern that I the said Jeremiah C. Wright for and in consideration of the Premises above recited have released from slavery, liberated, manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery, manumit and set free the said Negro Man Charles now called & known by the name of Charles Austin or Charles Oston who is of healthy constitution and sound in mind and body capable of labor to procure to him sufficient food and raiment with other requisite necessaries of life and not exceeding forty five years of age and him the said Negro Man Charles, I do by these presents declare and pronounce to be henceforth and from this time free, manumitted, released and discharged from all manner of slavery servitude or service to me, my executors or administrators forever. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this fourteenth day of December in the year of Our Lord eighteen hundred and forty four.
