governing body of any public library association or organization
and any fire department receiving part or all of its funds from
or through any county, incorporated town, or municipality, or
special taxing area, or other political subdivision of the State.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1985.

(House Bill 897)

AN ACT concerning

Financial Institutions - Legal Holidays -
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday

FOR the purpose of adding Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday
to the list of mandatory legal holidays for banking
institutions in the State.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article - Financial Institutions
Section 5-705(a)
Annotated Code of Maryland
(1980 Volume and 1984 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Financial Institutions

5-705.

(a) (1) Subject to paragraph (2) of this subsection, each
banking institution shall be closed on the following legal
holidays:

(i) New Year's Day;

(II) DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.'S BIRTHDAY;

[(ii)](III) Washington's Birthday;

[(iii)](IV) Good Friday;

[(iv)](V) Memorial Day;
