(1) In this subtitle the following words have the meaning
indicated.
(2) (a) "Municipal corporation" means a county,
incorporated town, or municipality or special taxing area, or any
other political subdivision of the State.
(b) "Municipal corporation" includes any public
library association or organization, any fire department that
receives part or all of its funds from or through any county,
town, municipality, special taxing area, or other political
subdivision of the State, and any board or commission created by
an act of the General Assembly for public purpose and not for the
profit of any private person or corporation. If a municipal
corporation ceases to meet the definition of "municipal
corporation" because of any public general or public local law,
any of its employees who have been a member of this pension
system may continue membership in this system at the employee's
election if the employer's contribution, as required herein,
continues to be made under this subtitle.
(c) To participate in this pension system the
following entities shall be considered to be a municipal
corporation:
River Basin;
Maryland, Inc.;
[and]
(i) The Interstate Commission on the Potomac
(ii) A cooperative library commission;
(iii) The Upper Potomac River Commission;
(iv) The Tri-County Council for Western
(v) The Allegany County Transit Authority;
(vi) The Health Planning Council of Appalachia;
(vii) The St. Mary's County Nursing Home;
(viii) The Maryland Environmental Service;
(ix) The Chesapeake Bay Commission; AND
(X) FROM AND AFTER OCTOBER 1, 1983, THE LOWER
SHORE PRIVATE INDUSTRY COUNCIL, INC.
(3) "Legislative body" means county commissioners, city
council, town council, president and commissioners, burgess and
commissioners (or by whatever other name the legislative body of
any incorporated town, city, or municipality may be known), and
the board or commission having authority or control over any
other political subdivision of the State, including the board or
