             Depositions for Courseys Range for John
             Coursey of Tallbott County

Maryland ss
       The Answers of Mathew Smith of Tallbot County Planter
       to the several Questions askd him by Jn.o Coursey of the same
       County Gen.t touching and concerning the bounds of a certain tract
       of Land called Courseys Range now in the possession of the said
       Coursey lying in Tallbot County on the Western Side of Morgans
       Creek now called Wye River the s.d Mathew Smith having first taken
       his Corporall Oath upon the Holy Evangelists before me William Coursey Com.r
       Especially appointed for this purpose by a Comission from the high Court of
       Chancery bearing date the 6.th day of October last

                   Taken this 14.th day of February in the second Year of her
                   Matys Reign Annoq Dni 1703

Imp.rs   Did you know Coll.o Henry Coursey of Tallbot County late deceased
       and how long have you been acquainted with him?

   Answer   I have known him fourty six years

Qu 2.d   Do you know that the s.d Coll.o Coursey in his life time was
       possessed of a Tract of Land called Courseys Range & how long
       have you known him to be possessed thereof?

   Answ.r   I have known him to be possessed of the Land called Courseys
       Range in Wye River ever since he first took it up I being then
       his serv.t

Qu 3.d   What is the name of that Cove whereby you now live or of whom &
       how long since did you purchase the same and what do you know
       concerning a bounded Pine w.ch is said to stand by that Cove?

    Answ.r   The name of the Cove whereon I now dwell was allways from
       the first inhabiting of the River called barren Neck Cove I
       bought the Two hundred Acres of Land of Coll.o Henry Coursey
       the lowermost part of Courseys Range about thirty two years past
       and the bounded pine which stands near my dwelling house
       is the lowermost and second bounded Tree of Courseys
       Range as I have been often told both by Coll.o Henry
       Coursey and severall others who certainly knew it to be to
                          a bounded Oak standing at or near that Cove or Branch

Qu 4.th   Do you know or due you ever hear any thing else relating to
       which is called Fadlers Branch or do you know to what Land it
       doth belong?
