       Depositions for Ambrose Kennement
                      Dec.r 10.th 1698

By virtue of a Comission to Us directed from y.e Court of
Chancery  We have Called before Us John Newman of
Talbot County plant.r aged about fifty Six years in perfect
health & did make oath before Us yt about thirty three or thirty
four years ago he put in for a Cropp with one John Knight
y.t lived upon a piece of Land in Keeds Creek in S.t Michaells
River in Talbot County  And as he was clearing a piece of
Ground y.e s.d John Knight came to him & shewed him a bounded
Tree & cautioned him not to fall y.e s.d Tree telling him it was
his bounded Tree wch to y.e best of his remembrance was
a Cedar but what was y.e name of y.e tract of Land y.t
John Knight then lived on or wch was y.e then reputed
Mouth of Keeds Creek this Dep.t knoweth not but go to
y.e place where y.e s.d bounded Tree stood this Dep.t knoweth
very well remembreth y.t it stood upon y.e lower side of a
Marsh near a piece of clear Ground where then stood a
tobacco house & farther saith y.t being lately upon y.e s.d Land
y.t formerly belonged to & was in y.e possession of y.e s.d John
Knight he saw y.e Post of a tobacco house & doth verily
believe these posts to be y.e afd bounded tree wch he was cautioned
not to cut down & y.t y.e s.d tree bore something up y.e Creek
from y.e s.d house wch this Dep.t thinks was to y.e norward of
afd tobacco house  And farther this Dept saith That
there was a Cove between y.e s.d Land y.t he cleared for
                                                                                     John
