       Deposition of Lydia Newman (alias Mannor) for
             Phil Lynes


Charles County ss
       In obedience to a Comiss.n to Me directed bearing
       date y.e third day of June Annoq Dom 1698 & in
       y.e tenth year of his Maj.ties Reign William by y.e Grace of God
       of England Scotland France & Ireland King &c Requiring
       Me to take y.e Deposition of one Elizabeth Newman
       of Charles County Widow in perpetuam Rei Memoriam
       But the Name mentioned in y.e Comission being mistaken
       upon Examination of y.e pts y.t appeared to give Testimony
       her Name being Lydia Newman y.e Relique of George
       Newman late of Charles County decd  And now Lydia
       Mannor by Intermarriage since with one John Mannor
       now of Charles County Which s.d Lydia Newman (alias
       Mannor did take her Corporall oath upon y.e holy Evangelist
       concerning a certain pcell of Land lying in
       Baltem.r County near Potapscoe formerly taken up
       betwixt Capt William Battin & Thomas Thomas both
       formerly of this province but now both decd  Which said
       Deposition was by Me taken from y.e Mouth of y.e fores.d
       Lydia wch I have together with y.e Comission transmitted
       as I am by y.e s.d Comiss.n required  And y.e s.d Lydia
       her oath is as underneath mentioned

    August y.e 24 1698
       Then came before Me Lydia Newman (alias Mannor)
       & made oath upon y.e holy Evangelist as touching y.e Lands
       y.e Comission to Me directed  That she knew her Father
       in Law M.r Will.m Battin & Tho.s Thomas & y.t she did
       hear them both say y.t they had taken up a certain Tract
       of Land consisting as she heard them say about one thousand
       Acres or thereabouts lying near about Potapsco River
       in Baltem.r County  And y.t she heard both parties say y.t y.e
       longest Liver should take all y.e s.d tract of Land & y.e s.d Thomas
       Thomas first deceasing & her s.d Father in Law W.m Battin
       living not long after  And y.e s.d Widow Thomas hearing y.t
       my father in Law W.m Battin was decd came over to her
       Mother M.s Margery Battin requesting her to give her her
       Right & title of y.e aforesaid tract of Land y.t she might
       seal her son thereon y.e w.ch M.s Battin refused to do  And
       farther this Deponent saith not
