(House Bill 383)
AN ACT concerning
Real Estate Commission - Appointment of Executive Director
FOR the purpose of providing that any executive director of the
Real Estate Commission appointed on or after July 1, 1983
shall be appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the
Secretary of Licensing and Regulation.
FOR the purpose of providing that the Real Estate Commission
shall submit a certain list of nominees from which the
Secretary of Licensing and Regulation shall appoint the
executive director who shall serve at the pleasure of the
Secretary.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
Article 56 - Licenses
Section 214(a)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article 56 - Licenses
214.
(a) The Commission, subject to the approval of the
Secretary of Licensing and Regulation, shall employ an executive
director and such assistants as may be necessary and do all other
things deemed necessary to discharge the duties imposed by and to
effect the purposes of this subtitle, who shall serve at the
pleasure of the Commission. Said persons may be removed without
cause by either the Commission or the Secretary of Licensing and
Regulation, provided that the Commission shall not remove said
persons without the approval of the Secretary of Licensing and
Regulation. IT IS FURTHER PROVIDED THAT, FOR ANY APPOINTMENT
MADE ON OR AFTER JULY 1, 1983, THE SECRETARY OF LICENSING AND
REGULATION SHALL APPOINT THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, WHO SHALL SERVE
AT THE PLEASURE OF THE SECRETARY FOR ANY APPOINTMENT MADE ON OR
AFTER JULY 1, 1983, THE REAL ESTATE COMMISSION SHALL SUBMIT THREE
NOMINEES FROM WHOM THE SECRETARY SHALL APPOINT THE EXECUTIVE
DIRECTOR, WHO SHALL SERVE AT THE PLEASURE OF THE SECRETARY. The
executive director shall possess a broad knowledge of the
generally accepted practices in the real estate business in this
State and be reasonably well informed as to the general laws
governing agency and contracts for the conveyance or leasing of
