A House Joint Resolution concerning
Earl W. Bridges
FOR the purpose of requesting the Board of Public Works
to pay to the estate or beneficiaries of Earl W.
Bridges the same benefits to which his estate or
beneficiaries would have been entitled had he been a
member in service of the State Employees' Retirement
System with one year creditable service at the time
of his death.
WHEREAS, On March 21, 1976, Earl W. Bridges, 3137
Cornwall Road, Baltimore, Maryland 2 1222, a pier crane
operator and mechanic of the Maryland Port Administration
was killed in a tragic crane accident at the Dundalk
Marine Terminal; and
WHEREAS, It appears that the only death benefits
payable to the estate or beneficiaries of Earl W. Bridges
by the Maryland State Employees' Retirement System will
be repayment of contributions made by Earl W. Bridges of
approximately $31.60 and accrued interest on account of
Earl W. Bridges having entered State service on December
29, 1975, less than three months prior to his untimely
and tragic death; and
WHEREAS, The Estate of beneficiaries of Earl W.
Bridges are entitled to some compensation from the
Maryland State Employees' Retirement System for the
tragic loss of life which has occurred; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
the Board of Public Works is requested to pay to the
estate or the beneficiaries of Earl W. Bridges the same
benefits to which his estate or beneficiaries would have
been entitled had he been a member in service of the
