x.d  This Indenture Made this Fifth day of July
             seventeen hundred and seventeen   Between
       Luke Gardiner of Prince Georges County Gent of the
       one part & Charles Carroll of the City of Annapolis
       Esq.r of the other part  Wittnesseth that the said
       Luke Gardiner for and in consideration of the sume
       of five hundred and forty pounds ster to him in hand at and
       before the Ensealing and Delivery of these presents by
       the said Charles well and truely paid the Receipt whereof
       he doth hereby acknowledge and thereof and of every
       part or parcell thereof Doth fully clearly and absolutely
       exonerate quitt and Discharge him the said Charles
y.e orig.ll  his heires and assignes for ever Hath Given Gargained
       sold alien enfeoffed and confirmed and by these presents
       for him and his heires Doth Give bargaine sell alien
       enfeoff cofirme unto him the said Charles all that Tract
       of Land Lying in Prince Georges County containing
       one thousand acres called the Barreen orriginally
       granted to the said Luke for one thousand acres
       Alsoe another Tract of Land granted to himselfe for
       four hundred acres Lyeing in Charles County called Room
       enough together with all and singular the Rights
       Members and appurtenances thereunto belonging or
       appurtaineing To Have and To Hold the said bargained
       Lands and premisses unto him the said Charles his heires
       and assignes for ever to and for the only proper use and
       behoofe of him the said Charles his heires and assignes
       and to no other use intent or purpose whatsoever And
       the said Luke Gardiner hereby for himselfe and his heires
       covenant promise Grant and Agree to and with him the
       said Charles his heires and assignes that all the said
       bargained Lands premisses and other the appurtenances
       are at the time of the Ensealing and Delivery of these
       presents clear and free of and from all Manner of
       Incumbrances whatsoever save only the quitt rents
       hereafter to grow Due to the said proprt.ry for the time
       being and that the same against all persons whatsoever
       he will for ever Warrant and Defend unto him
