for use of the property.
WHEREAS, The 25-mile long B&A Railroad right-of-way
in Anne Arundel County has teen abandoned by the railroad
company and is now unused; and
WHEREAS, This property that stretches from the
Baltimore City line to Annapolis, cutting through the
center of Anna Arundel County, would be an ideal location
for a bikeway from Patapsco State Park to the Severn
River; and
WHEREAS, Many citizens of Anne Arundel County have
requested that a bicycle path be included in plans for
the right-of-way, and the Maryland Commission on Physical
Fitness has endorsed the proposal that this beautiful and
scenic property be used for recreational purposes
including a hazard—free bicycle path; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
the Department of Transportation be requested to acquire
this property as soon as legally possible and that plans
for its use include construction of a bikeway and such
other recreational facilities as are compatible with the
Department's plans for the property; and be it farther
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State send copies of
this Resolution to Harry R. Hughes, Secretary of the
Department of Transportation, Baltimore-Washington
International Airport, Baltimore, Maryland; Mr. Harry D.
Kaufman, chairman of the Maryland Commission on Physical
Fitness; Mr. Walter J. Addison, Director of the Mass
Transit Administration, Baltimore, Maryland; and to
Marion McCoy, Director of Planning and Zoning for Anne
Arundel County, Arundel Center, Annapolis, Maryland.
