51.

When land is required for the site of a school or
for enlarging a school site, for playgrounds, or for
other school purposes, and the county board of education
is for any cause unable to contract with the owner or
owners thereof upon what they deem to be a fair valuation
thereof, the county board of education may institute
proceedings for the acquisition of such lands, in
accordance with Title 12 of THE REAL PROPERTY Article
[21] of [this] THE Code and the Maryland Rules of
Procedure. The county board of education nay request the
assistance of the county commissioners or county council
in instituting condemnation proceedings.

SECTION 10. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That
Sections 9A, 14A, 14B(a) and 14C(b), of Article 78A -
Public Works, of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969
Replacement Volume and 1973 Supplement) be and they are
hereby repealed and re—enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

Article 78A - Public Works
9A.

The Board of Public Works may condemn property to be
acquired for State use, except that which is in
connection with State roads, bridges, and highways. The
power of condemnation is subject to the provisions of
Title 12 of THE REAL PROPERTY Article [21] of [this] THE
Code,

14A.

The Board of Public Works may acquire part or all of
the property and premises known generally as Carvel Hall
Hotel, between Prince George Street and King George
Street in the City of Annapolis, and all of the older
portion of the improvements on the property, fronting on
Prince George Street and known generally as the Paca
House, may be included in any such acquisition. The
acquisition may be by purchase, gift, or condemnation
under the procedures in Title 12 of THE REAL PROPERTY
Article [21] of [this] THE Code, with any funds available
for this purpose from time to time. Any portion or
portions of the property acquired from time to time shall
be devoted, under the control of the Board of Public
Works or some other agency deemed by it as suitable under
the circumstances, to some public, governmental,
artistic, historic, cultural, or civic use or program.
