277) On the Back of the aforegoing Deed was thus Endorsed Viz.t Received of William Thornton the Sum of Two hundred and forty Pounds Sterling being the Consideration Money within mentioned Witness P P Thomas Geo Steuart Memorandum on the thirtieth day of April Anno Dom Seventeen hundred and fifty two Came the within named Philip Thomas and Acknowledged the within Deed and the Lands and Premisses therein mentioned to be the Right of the within named William Thornton his Heirs & Assigns for ever according to the directions of the Act of Assembly in that Case made and Provided Before me Geo Steuart Received of M.r William Thornton Three Pounds ten Shillings and three Pence half Penny Sterling for his Lordships Use (it being the Alienation Fine on the Lands within mentioned) 8 By Virtue of a Commission from Benjamin Tasker Esq.r his said Lordships Agent and Receiver General Rich.d Dorsey Recorded May 25.th 1752 Ex.d This Indenture made the Twenty ninth day of April One Thousand Seven hundred and fifty two Between William Thornton of the City of Annapolis Gentl of the one part and Philip Thomas of the County and Province afsd of the other part Witnesseth that the said William Thornton for and in Consideration of the Sum of five Shillings of Lawfull Money of Great Britain to him in hand paid by the said Philip Thomas the receipt whereof is hereby Acknowledged he the said William Thornton hath Granted Bargained and Sold and by these Presents Doth Grant Bargain and Sell unto the said Philip Thomas All that part of a Tract or Parcel of Land Scituate and lying in Baltimore County in the Province aforesaid being part of a Tract of Land called Clegates Forrest Containing according to the Certificate of Resurvey thereof Thirteen hundred and seven Acres, Also one other Tract or Parcel of Land Scituate and lying in the said County called Bonds Gratuity Containing four hundred Acres Also fifty Acres of Land lying in Calvert County in the Province aforesaid being part of a Tract of Land called Sanctly with the Rights Members and Appurtenances thereunto belonging and all and singular the Houses Edifices and Buildings and Improvements of what Nature or kind soever to the said Lands and Premisses belonging or in any wise appertaining and the Reversion and Reversions Remainder and Remainders Rents and Services of the said Premisses and of every part and Parcel thereof with the Appurtenances To have and to hold the said Lands and Premisses above mentioned and every part and Parcel thereof with the Appurtenances unto the said Philip Thomas his Ex.rs Adm.rs & Assigns from the Day next before the day of the date hereof for and during and unto the full end and Twem of One whole Year from thence next and immediately ensuing and following and fully to be Compleat and ended Yielding and Paying therefore one Pepper Corn in and upon the feast of S.t Michael the Arch Angel if demanded to the Intent that by Virtue of these Presents and by force of the Statute for Transferring of Uses into Possession he the said Philip Thomas may be in the Actual Possession of all and singular the said Premisses above mentioned with the Appurtenances and thereby be Enabled to Accept and take a Grant & Release of the Reversion and Inheritance thereof to him and his Heirs to the only & Proper Use and Behoof of him the said Philip Thomas his Heirs and Assigns for ever (according) |
