poses of the Trust. The Trust is authorized to receive, manage, ex-
pend, and dispose of grants, monies, and properties from the federal
government or the political subdivisions of the State.

181-U.

Subject to the limitations of Section 181-T, the Trust is authorized
to improve, sell, convey, assign, lease or otherwise transfer or dispose
of any property, or interest therein, held by it and enter into any con-
tracts, easements, or other legal arrangements incident thereto, in-
cluding but not limited to the authority to lease properties for various
commercial and residential uses consistent with the purposes of the
Trust for such terms and upon such conditions as the trustees deem
appropriate, provided that any leases made by the trustees shall be in
immediate furtherance of the purposes of the Trust and not merely
for investment purposes. Notwithstanding any provisions of law to
the contrary, no lease made by the Trust shall be subject to redemp-
tion at the option of the tenant, unless expressly so provided therein.

Each of the various political subdivisions of the State is urged and
authorized by appropriate action of its respective legislative body to
appoint a subcommittee, constituted as it may deem most appropri-
ate, to cooperate with and work under the guidance and control of the
Trustees of the Maryland Environmental Trust in carrying out and
in furtherance of the objectives of the Trust at the local level.

181-W.

All functions and activities of the Governors Committee to Keep
Maryland Beautiful are hereby transferred to the Maryland Envi-
ronmental Trust.
THESE FUNCTIONS AND ACTIVITIES IN-
CLUDE, BY WAY OF ENUMERATION AND NOT LIMITATION:

1.   EDUCATION OF MARYLAND CITIZENS AND VISITORS
TO THEIR INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY IN LITTER
PREVENTION AND FOR THE CARE OF THE OUT-OF-
DOORS THROUGH A TWO FOLD APPROACH:

(a)  AWARENESS-PUBLICITY THROUGH RADIO, TV,
NEWSPAPERS AND OTHER PUBLIC MEDIA.

(b)  ACTION—CLEANUP AND BEAUTIFICATION PROJ-
ECTS CARRIED OUT BY CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS,
COUNTY COMMITTEES AND COMMUNITY GROUPS
IN COOPERATION WITH PUBLIC AGENCIES.

2.   EFFICIENT USE OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE FUNDS
SPENT ON CLEANING UP HIGHWAYS, PARKS,
BEACHES AND OTHER PUBLIC AND PRIVATE PROP-
ERTY.

3.   INCREASE OF BEAUTY THROUGH STIMULATION OF
PRIVATE, BUSINESS, COMMUNITY AND PUBLIC
PLANTING PROJECTS.

4.   STIMULATION OF PRIDE AND APPRECIATION FOR
HOME COMMUNITY AND STATE.
