erty heretofore used in the enforcement of such laws; to provide
for the reassignment of certain employees heretofore engaged in
enforcement of such laws; to provide for the source of payment of
the salaries and expenses of the Department of Maryland State
Police in the enforcement of such laws and relating generally to
the administration and enforcement by the Department of Mary-
land State Police of certain laws heretofore enforced and admin-
istered by truck weight patrols or crews of the State Roads
Commission.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That four new sections be and they are hereby added to Article
88B of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition and 1964
Replacement Volume), title "State Police," subtitle "In General,"
said new sections to be known as Sections 21A through 21D, in-
clusive, to follow immediately after Section 21 thereof and to read
as follows:

21 A.

The Department shall enforce the laws relating to the width,
height, length, and weight of motor vehicles and loads as such laws
are defined in Sections 310 through 315, inclusive, of Article 66½ of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition, as amended). The
Department shall also enforce the laws relating to the Road Tax on
Motor Carriers, as such laws are defined in Sections 412 through 430
of Article 81 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition and
1965 Replacement Volume).

21B.

The truck weighing stations, the approach roads thereto, and the
portable scales and other equipment used in connection with the
enforcement of the laws referred to in Section 21A shall remain the
property of the State Roads Commission. Such Commission shall,
from the Motor Vehicle Revenue Fund, pay the cost of replacement,
repair, and maintenance of such buildings and equipment. All motor
vehicles used in the enforcement of said laws are hereby transferred
to the Department and may be used and disposed of as provided
elsewhere in this Article.

21C.

Employees of the State Roads Commission assigned and classified
as truck patrolmen on January 1, 1967, shall retain such classification
and are hereby transferred to the Department of Maryland State
Police as civilian employees thereof. All other employees of the
State Roads Commission assigned to the enforcement of the laws
referred to in Section 21A on January 1, 1967, shall be reassigned
to other duties within the Commission without loss of benefits to
which such employees are entitled as members of the classified
service under the Merit System Law.

21D.

Civilian employees may be assigned to assist police employees in
the enforcement of the laws referred to in Section 21A and, when
